Water comes first.

The same problems show up on almost every property. A wet spot that should be dry. A dry spot that should be wet. Topsoil gone after the first hard rain. A well running thin in August. A house sitting where the water wanted to go.

That isn’t bad luck. The land was treated as a place to put a building, not as something that has to work. We shape the ground so the rain stays. Some in a pond. The rest in the soil.

I’m Reid. Ten years on machines across the North Island. Ponds, roads, drainage, house sites. Swell is the practice that came out of seeing the same water problems over and over. Based on Vancouver Island. Working the Island and the Gulf Islands.

How a job goes

01Walk

We walk the property. Soil, slope, where the water already moves, and what you want from the place.

02Write it down

The pond and the ditches are sized to your ground. Nothing is copied from the last job.

03Build

We dig it. The soil stays and becomes the banks.

04Leave it working

You use some of the water. The rest soaks into the ground around the pond.
